What does Campable charge?

  • 25% of the nightly site price
  • 15% of extra-person charges and add-ons

Commission is worked out on what the guest paid after Stripe's card-processing fee comes off. That fee is about 2.9% + 30c; the actual fee is used once the card is charged. Free extras have no commission. It's free to list.

Can you show me an example?

A guest books one night at $40:

  • Stripe's card fee is about $1.46 (2.9% + 30c), leaving $38.54.
  • Campable's 25% is $9.63.
  • You receive about $28.91.

If they also buy $20 of firewood, the card fee is shared across the $60 total. Campable takes 15% of what's left of the firewood money.

What does the commission pay for?

Marketing Campable to travellers, our partners (like motorhome companies), customer support, payments, and building the website and apps.

How do I get paid?

Through Stripe, our payment provider. You connect your bank account during setup, and Stripe pays it directly. Stripe keeps your bank details and guests' card details secure.

When are guests charged, and when am I paid?

  • Instant bookings: the guest pays when they book. Your share is paid to your bank on the next 15th of the month once the payment has cleared (a few days).
  • Requests to book: once you accept, the guest's card is charged 14 days before the stay (or straight away if the stay is sooner), and you're paid on the 15th of the month after the stay, with a statement.

Why does Stripe need my ID?

Stripe must follow New Zealand's anti-money-laundering and "Know Your Customer" rules. So it asks for things like your date of birth, ID, and your company number (if you have one). If Stripe still needs something, you'll see it on the Payout check step or in your account, and Stripe may hold payouts until it's done.

How do I change my bank account?

Go to your Account → payout details, and follow the Stripe link.

A guest wants to pay me in person. Is that OK?

Every Campable booking is paid through Campable, so a guest with a booking has already paid. Please don't take a second payment. If you have staff, make sure they know this too.

What if a guest's card has expired?

This only matters for bookings that are charged later (requests to book, which are charged 14 days before the stay). If the guest's card will expire before the charge date, they're warned when they book and again before the charge. If the card still isn't updated by the charge date, the booking is cancelled and the night opens up again.

Tax & IRD

Why does Campable need my IRD number?

New Zealand now requires digital platforms like Campable to report hosts' earnings to Inland Revenue once a year. These are the rules on reporting by digital platforms, based on the OECD's model rules. So we need your IRD number, name, address and date of birth (or company details).

Does Campable deduct tax?

No. We only report what you earned. You're responsible for declaring your income, and for GST if you're registered.

When is the first report?

The first report covers the 2026 calendar year and is due to Inland Revenue by 7 February 2027. We report what was paid to you in each quarter, for each listing.

Where do I enter my tax details?

In the setup's Tax details step, or later under Account → Tax details. It takes about a minute.
