Cancellation Policy

Plans change. This policy aims to be fair to guests and hosts alike: guests should only book stays they plan to keep, and hosts shouldn't cancel close to arrival.

How do I cancel?

  • Guests: on the website, go to My Trips, open the booking and choose Cancel booking. You can also cancel in the Campable app.
  • Hosts: on the website, go to Hosting and then Bookings, open the booking and cancel it.

When a guest cancels

Each night of a booking counts on its own, by its date (New Zealand time):

  • 6 or more days before the night: full refund, less the card-processing fee.
  • 1 to 5 days before the night: 50% back (of what you paid, less the card-processing fee).
  • On the day: no refund.

Not charged yet? Instant Book stays are charged 14 days before the first night. If your card hasn't been charged yet, cancelling costs nothing. For a Request to Book, nothing is charged until the host accepts; any hold on your card is released if you withdraw, the host declines, or the request expires.

The card-processing fee is what our payment provider, Stripe, charges to process your card: about 2.9% + 30c for most cards. Stripe doesn't give it back when a payment is refunded.

Peak season

Peak season is 20 December to 15 January, and public holiday weekends from January to Easter (including regional anniversary weekends). These nights are in high demand, so different terms apply:

  • 14 or more days before the night: the usual terms above.
  • 1 to 13 days before the night: no refund now. If another guest books your site for that night, you get that night back, less the card-processing fee. We refund it the day after the night.
  • On the day: no refund.

Each night counts separately, so you may get some nights back and not others. We show these terms when you book a peak-season night.

Booked from 26 September until 4 October 2026? Your peak nights from 24 December to 2 January keep the terms you booked under. If you cancel 1 to 13 days before the night, you get 20% back (less the card-processing fee).

When a host cancels

If a host cancels, or Campable cancels on a host's behalf, the guest gets everything back, including the card-processing fee. Campable covers that fee.

Guests: if you need help finding somewhere else to stay, email support@campable.com. If a host cancels shortly before you arrive and we can't find you an alternative, Campable may charge the host up to NZ$50 for the inconvenience and pass it on to you. This doesn't apply to bookings made on the day of arrival.

Hosts: please cancel only if you really have to, and as early as you can. You aren't paid for cancelled nights.

Exceptional circumstances

If something serious means you have to cancel and these terms leave you with little or nothing back, email support@campable.com and tell us what happened. We may decide a full or partial refund is fair.

The legal version of this policy is in our Terms and Conditions.

Happy travels!
