Nikau Cave & Cafe
Campervan and motorhome stay in Waikaretu, Waikato, New Zealand · Rated 4.75 out of 5 (8 reviews) · from $25 a night
The place
Nikau Cave is in Waikaretu, a sheep and cattle farming area in spectacular limestone country. It is one of the most beautiful glowworm caves in New Zealand. With thousands of glowworms and amazing formations, it is the best place to see glowworms close to Auckland.
Less than 90 minutes drive southwest of Auckland, New Zealand, the one and a half hour tour through Nikau Cave is personal and unhurried. It is great for family groups, social clubs, team-building exercises and wet days.
Philip and Anne opened the cave on their farm to the public in 1994 and as the business grew, so did the need to have a dedicated centre to operate from. Their dreams for the cafe grew for many years before the first foundations were laid, and after a long building process, the cafe opened it's doors in 2008.
The beautiful cafe is the perfect place for a relaxing day trip from Auckland or refreshing getaway.
The beautiful cafe is fully licensed, serves coffee roasted onsite and a range of food and drink options.
Our extensive grounds are family friendly, and we have native bush and waterfall walk.

I was just perfect. Super nice location and even nicer people. Free shower, wifi & toilets available
Just a parking lot with toilets. Very quiet and with a lot of privacy.
Lovely place to stop.

LOVED staying here! Thank you so much for your warm welcome, and giving me some much needed social interaction. Walk to the waterfall was gorgeous with able guides Steve and Mark. Perfect.
